Patrick Smart
Specialist valuer of medals, militaria and bladed weapons
Patrick Smart is head of the medals and militaria department at Stroud Auctions and has a wide and varied knowledge of all things military.
His interest in military history started in his school days and only increased during the 14 years he served in the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars (RGH). He remains involved with them to this day as a member of their historical committee, as well as being treasurer to the Friends of the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum and Hon Secretary to the RGH Benevolent Fund.
During his time at Harper Field he has overseen the sale of some significant items and collections, including the Thomas Mason collection of bayonets (realised over £100,000) and a large consignment from the RGH Museum which made over £55,000.
He is more than happy to view either single items or large collections, and particularly enjoys researching all items to add their full history before sale.
